Sustainable Outcomes

To secure a livable future, the world needs to meet stringent carbon emission reduction targets and curb the rise in global temperatures.

At Terrenus Energy, we understand this urgency and are working hard to help accelerate the energy transition from a renewable technology perspective. We recognise our advantageous position in effecting meaningful change, not just in the energy sector, but in the communities that we form a part of by providing collaborative renewable solutions aimed at all market players and consumers.

Every green electron we produce is a unit of carbon not emitted. Each system and technology that we build is a step closer to decarbonising the grid. We seek to empower everyone to make a difference, in the ways they can. While there is no silver bullet to stopping global warming, we believe that small increments add up, and make things a little better each time.

Singapore needs collective
climate action -

Low-lying island city state: With 30% of our island is less than 5 metres above Singapore Height Datum, we are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Any increase in sea levels caused by climate change is an immediate threat.

Searing heat waves: 2019 was our hottest year on record and is set to increase to 40 degrees by 2045.

More frequent intense rainfall and storms: These lead to heavier flash floods and affect our water supply, biodiversity and greenery.

Current policies

➤   COP26: Half 2030 peak greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, and achieve net zero emissions "as soon as viable" after that

➤   Carbon Tax: In Singapore, dirty energy usage is taxable at $5/tCO2e

What can YOU do?

Choose Renewables!

Zero carbon alternative

Renewable energy sources like solar and wind are “clean” in that they do not emit polluting and planet-warming greenhouse gases upon production. This matters because energy consumption is by far the largest source of human-caused carbon emissions, racking up to 73 per cent worldwide across the transportation, building, electricity and heat, and manufacturing industries.

Power that won’t run out

Fossil fuel reserves will disappear by the turn of the century (as early as 2060, for some) if we continue to gobble them up at the current rate. Renewables, however, are infinite. Imagine that, in just a single hour, the amount of power the sun projects onto the Earth is more than the entire world consumes in a year. As technology catches up, we can harness these abundant resources increasingly effectively for a reliable – perpetual – power supply.

More economical than dirty energy sources

Up until recently, fossil fuels were more affordable. But the cost of renewables has tumbled drastically over the past decade. Current research shows that renewable energy is now more economical than new coal and gas power stations. Economies can stand to benefit from the reduction in import expenses. Meanwhile, homes and businesses are protected from wallet-pinching price fluctuations in the market, especially if they have a system installed onsite.

Energy democracy

As the grid continues to decentralise, energy generation and distribution is increasingly diversified. The Open Electricity Market invites more players to join in, including prosumers, and energy retail becomes multidirectional through new models like community solar and peer-to-peer energy trading. Most importantly, end-users can choose among a wider list of suppliers to cater to their electricity needs.

Solar’s unlimited potential

Innovations in renewable technology are making it possible to deploy solar on new surfaces. From building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) that merge solar glass into building façades to flexible solar panels that make new alternative surfaces suitable for renewable deployment. There’s also the emergence of space-based solar power (SBSP) showing that there is no limit to the potential of evolving solar cleantech – not even the sky.

Corporate Social Responsibility

More than just a business-as-usual renewable energy company.

We acknowledge gaps in current industrial practices that negatively impact the environment. To reduce our environmental impact, TE has committed to the following objectives.

More clean energy, less space

Our systems produce significantly greater energy output than industry standards for a given amount of space. This means less forest area must be cleared for our projects to hit a stipulated capacity.

The 3Rs and no-waste policy

For businesses, the circular economy should be principle – not just a guideline. From daily operations to project activities, we strive to adopt evergreen practices like using recycled materials and moving further away from single-use plastic and paper. Planning ahead, we have identified how to recycle solar panels when our plants reach the end of their terms.

Creating greener value: Aqua- and agrivoltaics

Aqua- and agrivoltaics are a new benchmark for green urban development where solar panels and vegetation coexist and thrive. To add greater environmental value to our offerings, we have partnered with urban farmers to grow edible gardens at our project sites.
